Ralph and Grace Ainsworth Scholarship of varying amounts, dependent upon funds available, is limited to full-time students who maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA and demonstrate financial need.

Dennis W. Archer Foundation Scholarship of $5,000 is limited to residents of the city of Detroit or graduates of Cassopolis High School who are undergraduate students in degree-granting programs and have financial need. A minimum 2.5 GPA is required, but special consideration may be given to students who work more than 10 hours per week. The total number of scholarships is dependent upon funds available, with one awarded to a student who has achieved junior level standing and one awarded to a student who has achieved senior level standing.

Howard Baker Foundation General Scholarship of full-time (12 credit hours maximum) tuition for two semesters is limited to undergraduate students at Wayne State University. Students accepted for full-time study at WSU may apply. Recipients of this award must be Detroit high school graduates, residents of the city of Detroit and United States citizens who have a minimum cumulative 2.5 GPA at the time of selection and financial need. This award is renewable provided recipients maintain a minimum cumulative 2.75 GPA at the end of each academic year and continue to meet the other stated requirements. Applicants must submit a brief written biographical statement and academic transcript (high school, if appropriate) to The Howard Baker Foundation Selection Committee, which will select the semi-finalists. To determine their future award eligibility, the Howard Baker Foundation Selection Committee will periodically review recipients’ progress/qualifications. By signing the Wayne State University Private Scholarships Application, students authorize the university to communicate their names and qualifications to the selection committee. The Howard Baker Foundation Selection Committee may interview the semifinalists to select the final scholarship recipients. The decisions of the committee are final. The committee will periodically review recipients’ progress/qualifications to determine future eligibility. This award must be applied toward tuition, fees, and required books with no cash to recipients.

Alex Barba Endowment Fund provides awards of varying amounts, dependent upon funds available, limited to full-time students who maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA and demonstrate financial need.

George N. Bashara Jr. Endowed Scholarship Fund provides awards of varying amounts, dependent upon funds available, to Wayne State students. Students accepted for study at WSU may apply. Recipient selection is based on scholastic achievement, qualities of leadership and financial need.

Beverly N. Bay Endowed Memorial Scholarship Fund provides awards of varying amounts, dependent upon funds available, to undergraduate and graduate students with preference given to female applicants. Recipient selection is based on scholastic achievement, desirable qualities of character and leadership, and financial need, including lack of parental or family financial assistance.

Miriam H. Berger Endowed Scholarship of varying amounts, dependent upon funds available, is limited to full- of part-time undergraduate or graduate students. A minimum GPA and financial need are not criteria.

Abraham Borman Endowment Fund provides awards of varying amounts, dependent upon funds available, limited to full-time students who maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA.

Warren E. Bow Scholarship Endowment Fund provides awards of varying amounts, dependent upon funds available, limited to full-time freshman students who graduated from a Detroit high school and maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA. The scholarship may be renewed.

Freeman Bradley and Pearl Grissom-Bradley General EndowedScholarship Fund provides awards of varying amounts, dependent upon funds available, limited to full- or part-time undergraduates who are graduating or have graduated from a Detroit High School with the minimum GPA required for admission to Wayne State University. Recipients must remain in good academic standing with a minimum 2.5 GPA to retain this scholarship. This award must be applied toward tuition and books.

Robert C. Branton Endowed Memorial General Scholarship of varying amounts, dependent upon funds available, is limited to entering freshmen graduates of Martin Luther King (MLK) High School. Recipient selection is based on financial need, scholastic achievement, and desirable qualities of character and leadership. If funds are available after all qualified MLK graduate applicants are awarded, entering freshmen graduates of Cass Technical High School and/or Cooley High School will be considered. Recipients who continue to meet the eligibility criteria and maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA may receive the award for up to four consecutive years.

This fund is established to recognize scholarship achievement, to encourage continued progress, and to provide assistance to students in financing their education at Wayne State University.

Terrance L. Brown Endowed Memorial Scholarship of varying amounts, dependent upon funds available, is limited to undergraduate students at the junior or senior level who maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA. Recipient selection is based on participation in community service and extracurricular activities, and a 500-word essay about his/her life and how higher education makes a difference. Mr. Brown’s wife and/or her designee may review the essays and make recommendations to the selection committee. Preference is given to African-American applicants.

Samuel and Mollie Burtman Endowment Fund provides awards of varying amounts, dependent upon funds available, limited to full-time students who maintain a 3.0 GPA minimum and demonstrate financial need.

Wayne County Commissioner Burton Leland Annual Scholarship is for full-time or part-time undergraduate students pursuing a degree in any area of study, and reside in Wayne County District 7. Applicants must demonstrate financial need. This award must be applied toward tuition and other educational expenses. Wayne County Commissioner Burton Leland Annual Scholarship provides awards of $1,000 to as many applicants that qualify, up to a total of 25 awards, for every year that Burton Leland holds office as county commissioner. Recipient selection will be made based on university policies and procedures. Recipients of this award must reapply and be reevaluated in order to receive a renewal of this award.

Len Cargan Endowed Fund for Returning Students provides awards of $1,000 limited to students between 22 and 37 years of age who are beginning university studies for the first time or who are returning to studies in the College of Liberal Arts. Recipient selection is based on financial need. A minimum GPA is not required. Preference is given to applicants who are not eligible for other grant (gift) aid.

Edward Connor Endowment Fund provides awards of varying amounts, dependent upon funds available, limited to full-time students who maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA and demonstrate financial need.

Albert C. Dames Trust Scholarship of $2,500 is limited to full-time students who maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA and demonstrate financial need. Two awards are given annually.

Gilbert R. and Patricia K. Davis General Endowed Scholarship of varying amounts, dependent upon funds available, is limited to students who are enrolled at least part-time in a degree program. Applicants must have completed at least 15 hours of Wayne State coursework and they must be Michigan residents. Recipients are selected on the bases of scholastic achievement (a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA) and merit. This award is renewable provided recipients maintain a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA at the end of each academic year and continue to meet the other stated award criteria. This scholarship must be applied toward tuition, fees and books.

Bessie Hall Dawson and Mat Dawson Sr. Endowed Memorial Scholarship of varying amounts, dependent upon funds available, is limited to full-time undergraduate students who maintain a minimum 2.7 GPA. Recipient selection is based on financial need and qualities of leadership. Recipients who continue to meet the criteria may receive the award for four consecutive academic years (fall and winter semesters).

Mattel “Mat” Dawson Jr. Endowed Multi-year Scholarship of varying amounts, dependent upon funds available, is limited to undergraduate students enrolled full-time. Students accepted for study at WSU may apply. This award is given during the fall and winter semesters of the academic year. Recipients are selected on the bases of financial need, scholastic achievement (a minimum 2.7 GPA) and qualities of leadership. Recipients may retain this award each year for four years provided they meet the criteria. This scholarship must be used for tuition and other educational expenses.

Detroit High School Students Endowed Scholarship Fund provides awards of varying amounts, dependent upon funds available, that are limited to Detroit high school students who plan to attend Wayne State University on a full- or part-time basis. Recipient selection is based on scholastic potential, qualities of leadership and financial need. Recognition is given to recipients at an annual scholarship event held to benefit the Detroit High School Students Endowment. By signing the Wayne State University Private Scholarships Application, recipients authorize the university to communicate their names and scholastic standing to the WSU Organization of Black Alumni.

Detroit Betterment through Community Service and the Arts AnnualScholarship is limited to full-time undergraduate students pursuing a degree the School of Social Work (two awards) or the College of Fine, Performing, and Communication Arts (two awards) who have a minimum 2.5 GPA, are residents of the city of Detroit, and have an expressed interest in working for the betterment of the city of Detroit. Applicants must submit two letters of recommendation, preferably from teachers, high school counselors, employers, volunteer organizations, Detroit community service workers/professionals, or members of the Detroit art community. Applicants also must submit an essay (minimum 250 words) describing his/her interest in contributing to the betterment of the city of Detroit through community service or the arts and how his/her course of study at WSU will help him/her achieve his/her objectives. This award must be applied toward tuition.

Robert E. and Nancy J. Doughty General Endowed Scholarship of varying amounts, dependent upon funds available, is limited to undergraduate students. Recipient selection is based on financial needs and good academic standing. Preference is given to minority applicants. This award must be applied toward tuition and books.

Eben L. Dunn Endowment Fund provides awards of varying amounts, dependent upon funds available, limited to full-time students who maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA.

Michael Einheuser Endowed Scholarship Fund provides awards of varying amounts, dependent upon funds available, limited to undergraduate students. Students accepted for study at WSU may apply. Recipient selection is based upon scholastic achievement or promise, desirable qualities of character and leadership, and financial need.

Albert Feigenson Scholarship is for full-time undergraduate and graduate students in English or Music who maintain a minimum 3.0 grade point and demonstrate financial need. Amounts vary.

Herman and Perry Feigenson Scholarship of varying amounts, dependent upon funds available, is limited to full-time undergraduate students majoring in a liberal arts or science discipline who demonstrate financial need and maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA.

Alice and Henry Feldman Scholarship of varying amounts, dependent upon funds available, is limited to full-time students who maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA and demonstrate financial need.

The Dorothy L. Fisher General Endowed Scholarship is established to recognize scholastic achievement, to encourage continued progress toward a degree, and to provide assistance to students in financing their education at Wayne State University. Applications may be accepted from undergraduate students of Wayne State University or from students accepted for undergraduate study at Wayne State University. Preference will be given to students who attended the Dorothy L. Fisher Middle School, but not limited to those students. Documentation of proof of attendance to the Dorothy L. Fisher Middle School (i.e., transcript) must be attached to the Wayne State University Private Scholarship Application. The scholarship shall fund tuition for a minimum of 12 credit hours each per semester for two semesters. The award(s) is limited to four years providing the student(s) continues to qualify.

Shirley Flaherty Endowed Scholarship of varying amounts, dependent upon funds available, is limited to graduates of Northwestern High School in Detroit, with preference given to entering freshmen. Recipient selection is based on scholastic achievement and financial need. This award must be applied toward tuition and books.

Ford/EEOC Endowed Scholarship Fund provides awards of varying amounts, dependent upon funds available, limited to minority and female students employed by Ford Motor Co. or whose spouse or parent is employed by Ford Motor Co. Certification of Ford Motor Co. employment for the qualifying person is required.

Douglas and Winifred Fraser Chrysler Workers Scholarship of full tuition is limited to full-time students who maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA. Applicants’ parent, legal guardian or spouse must have been employed by Chrysler Corp. within the past year and must have been a member of the UAW for at least five years. Applicants must submit a letter proving employment as well as membership certification for the qualifying parent from the union local.

Gerald and Glenda Greenwall Endowed Scholarship Fund provides an award of full tuition limited undergraduate students. Recipient selection is based on scholastic achievement and financial need. This scholarship is renewable for four years provided the recipient maintains a minimum 2.5 GPA and demonstrates continued financial need.

Alan Jay Guttenberg Memorial Scholarship of varying amounts, dependent upon funds available, is limited to freshman students enrolled full-time who maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA and demonstrate financial need.

This fund is established to recognize scholastic achievement, to encourage continued progress, and will be used to assist men and women who would otherwise be unable to attend Wayne State University due to the lack of necessary funds. The recipient must demonstrate a high financial need.

Wilhelmina Harrison Endowment Fund provides awards of varying amounts, dependent upon funds available, limited to full-time students who maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA and demonstrate financial need.

Helen Eugenia Hart Endowed Scholarship Fund provides awards of varying amounts, dependent upon funds available, that are limited to undergraduate students. Applications are accepted from Wayne State University students enrolled full- or part-time or from students accepted for study at WSU. Recipients are selected on the bases of scholastic achievement, qualities of leadership and financial need. This award is renewable provided recipients have a 3.0 GPA at the end of each consecutive academic year.

Mildred James Hulme Endowed Memorial Scholarship Fund provides awards of varying amounts, dependent upon funds available, that are limited to students who are enrolled full-time at Wayne State or who are accepted for full-time enrollment at WSU. Recipient selection is based on scholastic achievement, desirable qualities of character and leadership, and financial need.

Margaret R. Humberger Scholarship Endowment Fund provides awards of varying amounts, dependent upon funds available, limited to full-time students who maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA and demonstrate financial need.

Dauris G. Jackson Endowed Scholarship Fund provides awards of varying amounts, dependent upon funds available, that are limited to undergraduate students who have completed at least one full semester at WSU and reside in the city of Detroit. Students must submit two references attesting to their qualities of character and leadership. Recipients are selected on the bases of academic potential, desirable qualities of character and leadership, and financial need.

Murray E. Jackson Endowed Scholarship Fund provides awards of varying amounts, dependent upon funds available, to graduate students pursuing degrees in humanities disciplines, including classics, communications/ journalism, cultural anthropology, English, German and Slavic languages and literature, history, Near Eastern and Asian studies, and romance languages. Recipient selection is based on scholastic achievement, qualities of leadership and financial need.

Mildred Jeffrey Endowed Scholarship Fund provides awards of varying amounts, dependent upon funds available, that are limited to undergraduate students. Students accepted for study at WSU may apply. Recipient selection is based on scholastic achievement or promise, desirable qualities of character and leadership, and financial need.

John Kelly Scholarship Fund provides awards of varying amounts, dependent upon funds available, limited to students who are eligible for benefits under the G.I. Bill and enrolled in a degree-granting program. Recipient selection is based on scholastic achievement and qualities of leadership. This award must be applied toward tuition and fees that are not covered by G.I. Bill benefits.

Denise J. Lewis Endowed Scholarship Fund provides awards of varying amounts, dependent upon funds available, limited to full-time students. Recipient selection is based on scholastic achievement, qualities of leadership, and financial need.

Ernie and Mary Lofton Endowed Scholarship Fund provides awards of tuition, fees and books that are limited to undergraduate students enrolled full-time in a degree program. At least one scholarship per academic year is available. The award recipient must meet the following criteria: A. He or she must have been represented by the UAW for at least five years, and those years must not have ended more than one year prior to his or her commencement of full-time studies; and B. He or she must be retired pursuant to the terms of any UAWnegotiated retirement plan or program; or C. He or she must be a spouse or surviving spouse of an employee or a retiree described under (A) or (B) above; or D. He or she must be a dependent or child of an employee or a retiree described under (A) or (B) above. If more than one student is eligible for this award in an academic year, more than one scholarship recipient may be selected on the additional basis of financial need or demonstrated scholastic ability or another criterion that is consistent with the purpose of providing UAW-represented employees the best possible opportunity for higher education.

David Mackenzie Scholarship of varying amounts, dependent upon funds available, is limited to full-time students who maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA and demonstrate financial need.

Hans A. Matthias Scholarship Endowment Fund provides awards of $500 limited to full-time students who maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA and demonstrate financial need.

McGregor-Perring Endowed Scholarship Fund provides awards of $1,000 limited to full-time undergraduate students who maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA and demonstrate financial need.
